Overview

EMPLOYMENT SCREENING & DRUG TESTING

This application creates an opportunity for Kahua customers of any size, large or small, to easily and quickly establish a “Best Practice” employment screening and drug testing process. The App is flexible and can accommodate a small subcontractor as well as high volume Owners and General Contractors that select the option of requiring all project participants to meet testing requirements through the use of a single screening and testing provider.

The App leverages both the strengths of Kahua and the screening provider, S2Verify. Customers will enjoy the power and flexibility of Kahua (i.e., electronic applications and workflows) integrated with sophisticated technology in the form of, notices and acknowledgements as well as storage of confidential hiring data by S2Verify through a leading background screening and ATS industry platform, Deverus, designed for that purpose. The overall design creates an extra layer of data security by allowing screening orders to be created on Kahua and results to be translated and returned in the format of "Eligible/Review/Not Eligible" after final review and adjudication.

Background

This App is a member of Talent Management, a suite of human resource applications. When the App is purchased and installed it will reside in the Talent Management group of Apps. The remaining Apps in this suite will be released in 2014. See Talent Management Suite Document for further information.

Easy to use
  • Create a screening order:
    1   Enter the candidate to be screened and the required personal and detailed
          background information.
    2   Click on the candidate to be screened.
    3   Review the list of screens returned by the APP (Based
          on job class of applicant).
    4   Make any changes desired.
    5   Release the order by clicking "complete button".
  • "Results" are returned when screens are complete.

Construction industry background screening & drug testing issues

The construction industry needs a simple and affordable background screening and drug testing solution.

The construction industry has a very real need for background screening and drug testing. The industry relies heavily on background screening and drug testing as tools in the management of risk, safety and security of persons and assets that are present in the workplace. Historically, the industry experiences higher employee turnover than other industries. Temporary job sites are often the workplace versus permanent (more secure) facilities found in other industries.

Most contractors and subcontractors do not have the time or desire to become experts in employment screening. Background screening is a complex subject and rapidly changing legislation adds additional complication.

However, these companies find it a “Business Necessity” to take every possible action, including background screening and drug testing, to reduce the risk of criminal conduct (e.g., violent crimes, drug related crimes, monetary crimes) in the workplace. This approach requires the same or similar screens throughout the company (a “Blanket of Screens) with few exceptions. “Blanket Screening” is costly and potentially discriminatory. Discrimination is more likely to occur where the characteristics of the job and workplace are not used as the basis to determine “Business Necessity”. Background screening and employment exclusions should be limited to jobs where a Business Necessity exists.
