Overview

This app was designed for use by Owners, Construction Managers, GCs and Subcontractors to manage the risk of Hot Work. Hot Work operations include tasks such as welding, brazing, torch cutting, grinding, and torch soldering. These operations create heat, sparks and hot slag that have the potential to ignite flammable and combustible materials in the area surrounding hot work activities.

OSHA 1910.252 requires the authorization or "Permitting" for Hot Work and other high-risk work. The permitting process is designed to reduce the risk of fires and injuries through the elements of:

• Control
• Advance notice request and planning
• Work assessment and review of alternative approaches
• Communication with others
• Coordination with others
• Clearing work area of combustibles
• Identification of appropriate emergency resources to be on hand during hot work (i.e., fire watch, extinguishers)
• Authorization/Approval by site managers
• Notification of others that may be at risk
• Planned Fire System Disarm and reactivate times
• Actual Fire System Disarm and reactivate times
• Notes on steps that worked well and those that need improvement

The app simplifies the preparation of a request for approval of a Fire Disarm (System) and Hot Permit. The app leverages Kahua workflow to accelerate the communication, site assessment, authorization and notification process.

Fire Disarm/Hot Permit contains features that standardize the process of recording, time stamping and documenting permit request details (i.e., requestor, dates, time required to complete, location, type of hot work, site inspection notes, assessment of necessity, approvals).

Participants use tablets/pads at the work site location to capture photo images of the work area and to complete and to respond to the request.

The app workflow makes it easy to communicate with others. In seconds, the right person has received the request and can evaluate the situation by reviewing the request form, approve or reject and move the request to the next person in the step chain.

The app can also capture additional notes, comments and communication that occur through the life of the request to conclusion. The app provides complete time stamped documentation and the step-by-step history of each permit.
